Fishing Company Of Alaska Claims

Stacey & Jacobsen, PLLC represents injured fishermen and fish processors in claims against the Seattle-based Fishing Company of Alaska and other fishing companies working in the Bering Sea.* If you have been injured working as a crewman aboard a vessel owned by the Fishing Company of Alaska, you should contact an experienced maritime attorney to learn about your rights to compensation under the Jones Act and the General Maritime Law.

We Take On Complex Cases

The Fishing Company of Alaska (FCA) is one of the largest employers of crewmen fishing in Alaska. FCA employs approximately 350 crewmen each year to work aboard seven factory trawler vessels owned or managed by the company. Crewmen working aboard fishing vessels owned by the Fishing Company of Alaska are entitled to benefits under the Federal Maritime law when they are injured as a result of an accident aboard ship. All reasonably related medical expenses of injured crewmen must be paid until they reach maximum medical improvement.

These no fault benefits are called maintenance and cure. Additionally, under the Jones Act, where the crewmen are injured through the negligence of the vessel owner or as a result of unseaworthiness, the crewmen are entitled to compensation for their pain and suffering, emotional distress, lost past and future wages and, in many cases, retraining costs. The Death on the High Seas Act provides benefits to crewmen who die working at sea beyond State territorial waters (three miles).

Serious Injury And Wrongful Death

In serious injury and death cases, the Fishing Company of Alaska's insurance company immediately begins defense and investigation of your claim. Don't guess about your rights under the maritime law. For example, you have the right to choose your own doctors to treat you and do not have to be treated by doctors selected for you by your employer. When injured, you are entitled to wages until the end of your contract if your injuries prevent you from continuing to work.
